What it is

What you need
- The class Doodle
- dry-erase crayons
- the book you're reading (the document covers classics, coloring books, SEL titles, and seasonal/animal themes — fall, safari/zoo, under the sea, farm, woodland)
Steps
Pick the book and its Doodle connection
Choose a title and its activity from the document's menu. Every book gets its own Doodle tie-in: rhyme hunts (draw the rhyming pairs you hear in Goodnight Moon), notes to the Doodle (convince it to try a food it thinks is gross, Green Eggs and Ham-style), drawing prompts (your family, like Mouse's; your favorite cookie), or writing prompts (a poem of your own for Where the Sidewalk Ends; what you'd miss on the island with the Wild Things).
Read with "Pass it"
Set the Doodle in the middle of the reading circle with a few crayons passed out. When the magic word or event happens, the crayon switches to the next student — or pass the whole Doodle with its crayons from table to table. (For The Day the Crayons Quit: pass whenever a new crayon speaks. For Harold: pass each time Harold draws something new.)
Do the connection
Run the book's drawing or writing activity on the Doodle.
Share it
Take turns showing what landed on the Doodle and reading the notes aloud.
