What it is
Stories grow as Doodles switch between classes/branches - collaborative narrative writing.
Source: Story Swapping - DoodleFace Parade Activity
- Timeflexible — swap multiple times a day, or every few days
- Setupa little setup
What you need
- One Doodle per class
- paper and writing materials
- a partner classroom (optional — you can swap within your own class)
Steps
Start the story
Team up with other classrooms. Each class starts the story for its own Doodle. Doodles love stories about themselves — especially the wild, wonderful, and crazy ones.
Swap Doodles
Every time Doodles switch classrooms, read the tale begun by the previous class, then add to it.
Keep swapping
Trade as many times as you want: multiple times per day, or every few days.
Share the finished stories
Gather classes so all the Doodles can share their stories at once, keep rotating until every class has read them all, or read the award-winning stories over the announcements.
Tips
- No teacher to swap with? Swap stories within your classroom.
- Younger kids? Teachers write the stories with the class's help.
- Starter prompts from the Doodle: where I came from (before I arrived at your school) · what happened the night everyone left and the Doodles came to life · when I was little and lived with my Doodle family · the best day I've ever had · what we'd do if I came to your house for a play date.
